LG Energy Solution to open new era with younger leadership

The Korea Times - LG Energy Solution is embarking on a new journey with younger leadership headed by new CEO Kim Dong-myung.

“We have identified Kim as the most qualified figure who can exude the young leadership with battery expertise and creative mindset,” a spokesman at the company said Tuesday. “We have confidence Kim will be able to tackle the escalating market uncertainty and toughening battery competition here and abroad.”

Kim has taken on multiple key tasks at the LG affiliate, encompassing R&D, production, sales and planning for the past 25 years.

He underscored the importance of pushing for creating quality-driven growth strategies and building a professional corporate culture.

“LG Energy Solution has tightened its footing as the first mover of the global battery industry,” Kim said in an inaugural address. “We also have to build a structure to secure competitiveness in prime costs even at a time when we are exposed to potential external risks.”

He went on to say that the company would level up the firm’s corporate culture, so employees and executives can persistently challenge themselves and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Toward the end of his speech, he pledged to build a fair compensation system, so those who are committed to their work and generating tangible outcomes can be compensated accordingly.

LG Energy Solution possesses the largest number of patents among global battery firms, and the firm has a diverse business portfolio, such as vehicle batteries and smaller ones used for handheld devices, such as smartphones.

“LG Energy Solution has valuable success experiences and infinite growth potential,” Kim said. “We are ready to display our overwhelming battery presence to the global market.”

Kim joined the firm’s battery research center back in 1998 and was promoted to head of its mobile battery research center in 2014. In 2020, he became the chief of the firm’s vehicle battery business unit. (Advertorial)
