MESSAGE FROM CO-CHAIRS | ||||||||||
Dear AMCHAM members,
The power sector is transitioning towards a greater share of sustainable renewable energy technologies away from traditional hydrocarbon fired electricity supply. Renewable energy has seen remarkable growth in recent years in particular in solar and wind power. A key driver of the transition is concern over climate change: increasing carbon dioxide concentrations and global warming with associated extreme weather events, rising sea levels and increasing water scarcity. According to the World Wide Fund (WWF), the whole world could get all the power it needs from renewable resources by 2050, ending our reliance on fossil fuels and other depleting resources ? but only if the right political, financial and societal decisions are made, and quickly. Amid a global environmental crisis, renewable energy takes center stage. At this committee meeting we will look at the opportunities that exist in this space. We’ll be joined by experts in the wind, solar, and the environmental resource sectors to help us better understand what the Korean government’s latest energy plan highlighting 13GW of new renewable energy within the next few years is all about, and what it means for us in our daily lives and in our businesses.” Best regards, AMCHAM Energy & Environment Committee Co-Chairs |
