AMCHAM and Korea Data Center Council Sign MOU to Advance Digital Infrastructure in the AI Era

Strengthening the U.S.-Korea digital partnership to advance Korea’s AI leadership

and foster a competitive, sustainable AI ecosystem

March 4, 2026 - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM; Chairman and CEO James Kim) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today with the Korea Data Center Council (KDCC) at the IFC Forum in Yeouido to deepen cooperation in the data center and digital infrastructure sectors.

The agreement brings the two organizations together to establish a foundation for cooperation centered on data centers and digital infrastructure, encompassing advanced technologies and the energy sector, and to expand bilateral investment and industry engagement between the U.S. and Korea. Through the exchange of industry insights and policy dialogue, the two organizations aim to foster a competitive and sustainable digital ecosystem that supports Korea’s ambition to become one of the world’s top three AI powerhouse nations.

Leveraging their respective networks and expertise, AMCHAM and KDCC will promote closer industry cooperation through joint seminars, forums, and roundtable discussions, while encouraging constructive engagement on regulatory and policy matters that shape the sector’s growth.

AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim said, “AI competitiveness begins with reliable and scalable digital infrastructure. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to helping build the competitive and sustainable ecosystem needed for Korea to advance as a global AI leader.” He added, “AMCHAM will continue to serve as a bridge between our two business communities, supporting policies and initiatives that foster innovation and investment.”

Chairman Kang Jung-Hyup of KDCC said, “This MOU with AMCHAM marks an important step in advancing cooperation between the Korea and the U.S. data center industries. The United States accounts for nearly half of the global data center market, led by major technology companies, while Korea’s market continues to grow at a rapid pace. By bringing our strengths together, we see significant potential to create meaningful synergies and expand collaboration as both countries scale their digital infrastructure.”

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Joe Narus, Science, Technology and Energy Unit Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, along with representatives from Bloom Energy Korea, underscoring the broader U.S.-Korea commitment to advancing digital cooperation in the AI era.

2026년 3월 4일 - 주한미국상공회의소(암참; 회장 겸 대표이사 제임스 김)는 오늘 오전 여의도 IFC 더포럼에서 한국데이터센터연합회(KDCC)와 양해각서(MOU)를 체결하고, 데이터센터 및 디지털 인프라 분야에서 한·미 협력을 강화해 나가기로 했다.

이번 협약은 데이터센터와 디지털 인프라를 중심으로 첨단기술·에너지 분야까지 아우르는 협력 기반을 마련하고, 양국 간 투자 확대와 산업 연계를 강화하는 데 목적이 있다. 특히 양 기관은 기업·기술·정책 정보 교류를 통해 경쟁력 있고 지속가능한 디지털 생태계를 조성함으로써, 한국이 글로벌 AI 3대 강국으로 도약하고자 하는 비전을 지원한다는 데 뜻을 같이했다.

양 기관은 산업 현장의 전문성과 네트워크를 바탕으로 정책·규제 환경에 대한 건설적인 논의를 이어가고, 공동 세미나·포럼·간담회 등을 통해 업계 간 협력을 촉진할 계획이다. 이를 통해 한·미 디지털 파트너십을 더욱 공고히 하고, AI 시대의 핵심 인프라 경쟁력을 강화해 나갈 방침이다.

제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사는 “AI 경쟁력은 결국 안정적이고 확장 가능한 디지털 인프라에서 출발한다.”며 “이번 협약은 한국이 글로벌 AI 강국으로 도약하는 과정에서 필요한 경쟁력 있고 지속가능한 생태계 조성을 지원하는 중요한 기반이 될 것.”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “암참은 양국 산업계를 연결하는 가교로서 혁신과 투자를 촉진하는 환경 조성에 지속적으로 기여해 나갈 것.”이라고 강조했다.

한국데이터센터연합회 강중협 회장은 “금번 주한미국상공회의소와의 MOU 체결로 글로벌 시장 전체의 절반 수준의 비중을 갖고 있고, 빅테크 기업들이 선도하는 미국의 데이터센터 산업 시장과 급성장하고 있는 한국의 데이터센터 산업 시장이 협력하여 함께 시너지효과를 만들어낼 수 있는 시작점이 되는 좋은 기회가 마련되었다는 점에서 기쁘게 생각한다.”고 말했다.

한편, 이날 체결식에는 주한미국대사관 경제과 조 내러스(Joe Narus) 과학·기술·에너지 정책 과장이 참석했으며, 블룸에너지코리아 관계자도 함께 자리해 한·미 디지털 협력의 의미를 더했다.
