March 5, 2025 - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM; Chairman and CEO James Kim) hosted former Prime Minister Kim Bookyum at their Board of Governors meeting today. The closed-door meeting, held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul, provided a valuable platform for AMCHAM Board members to engage in a candid discussion with the former Prime Minister regarding their concerns and policy recommendations for enhancing Korea’s business environment.

During the meeting, former Prime Minister Kim reaffirmed the critical importance of strengthening economic ties between Korea and the United States, emphasizing that expanding free trade and advancing regulatory reforms are essential for sustainable growth. He acknowledged the concerns raised by AMCHAM members regarding regulatory complexities and underscored the need for a more predictable and transparent business landscape that fosters foreign investment.

The discussion also touched upon key industries where U.S. and Korean companies can further strengthen cooperation. Prime Minister Kim highlighted the complementary nature of both countries’ economies, noting that advanced technology, manufacturing, and supply chain resilience present significant opportunities for deeper collaboration. He also emphasized Korea’s role as a critical player in the global economic order and reiterated the importance of a stable and forward-looking policy framework to ensure long-term competitiveness.
