Grand Koleos Sales Boom in Korea

BusinessKorea - Renault Korea’s mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) Grand
Koleos continues its success in the domestic market. As popularity persists
with the sell-out of the “limited edition model,” a benchmark for hit products,
Renault Korea has begun discussions on increasing production.
According to Renault
Korea on May 15, domestic sales of the Grand Koleos reached 15,716 units from
January to last month this year. Launched in September last year, the Grand
Koleos surpassed cumulative sales of 30,000 units in 7 months, and since the beginning
of this year, its average monthly sales have exceeded 4,000 units.
In July last year, when
announcing the launch plan for the Grand Koleos, Renault Korea set a target of
3,000 units for average monthly sales and about 36,000 units for annual sales.
However, given the enthusiastic response in the domestic market, this year’s
sales are likely to exceed 50,000 units.
The hybrid model
(E-Tech) of the Grand Koleos is particularly popular. With a system output of
245 horsepower, the highest in its class, and a combined fuel efficiency of
15.7km/ℓ, it offers powerful driving performance and excellent economy
simultaneously for long-distance travel. The interior design, featuring a large
panoramic display extending to the passenger seat, is also well-received in the
domestic market.
The popularity of the
Grand Koleos was also proven by its limited edition model. Renault Korea
launched a special limited edition “Grand Koleos Esprit Alpine Noir” on April
1, and all 999 units were sold out in just 11 days. Following the sell-out of
the limited edition model, Renault Korea has begun work on creating a follow-up
special edition vehicle.
Renault Korea is also
pursuing plans to increase production of the Grand Koleos. Stéphane Deblaise,
CEO of Renault Korea, said, “We are achieving tremendous results in Korea,”
adding, “We expect to expand annual production.”
