By Jung Young-seon, The Korea Herald - James Kim, chair and CEO of AMCHAM Korea, received an honorary doctorate in business administration from Korea Aerospace University on Thursday for his contributions to South Korea-US economic cooperation.

The university cited Kim’s role in connecting the two countries’ governments and businesses, promoting trade and investment and advancing cooperation in high-tech industries. It also recognized his efforts to attract investment to Korea and improve the business environment.

The ceremony took place at the university’s Aerospace Center Vision Hall in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, attended by President Heo Hee-young, university officials, faculty members and students. Jang Sung-hyun, executive vice president of Korean Air, delivered congratulatory remarks. A commemorative tree planting was also held before the ceremony.

“I am honored to receive the degree from a university that has helped develop talent for Korea’s aerospace and defense industries,” Kim said. He thanked Heo and other university officials, highlighting industry-academia cooperation between Korea Aerospace University and Korean Air, as well as Korean Air’s partnerships with major US companies.

AMCHAM has supported students through an internship program with the university and ongoing scholarship funding. Kim said the chamber would continue cooperating with the university in aerospace and defense and promote collaboration among universities, businesses and local communities.

Heo praised Kim’s contributions to bilateral economic and trade relations and thanked him for supporting the university, including the expansion of its tennis courts and student internship opportunities. He said it was an honor to welcome Kim as an alumnus.

Jang said Kim had served as a bridge between Korean and American businesses and culture, remarking about his leadership and consideration for others. He congratulated Kim on receiving the honorary degree.
