    EVENT DESCRIPTION
2025 has been characterized by dramatic swings in U.S. tax and trade policies. This committee meeting will explore these developments through the lens of the economic relationship between the United States and Korea, focusing on implications for Korean businesses and investors with U.S. interests. Among other topics, speakers will assess the effects on Korean industries of the 15% tariff agreed between Presidents Trump and Lee in July, discuss changes to U.S. tax incentives for investment in sectors of interest to Korean investors, and explore the probable competitive effects of the United States’ insistence that its own antideferral rules, known as GILTI, must function as a “side-by-side system” with the OECD-developed Pillar Two, which Korea adopted into domestic law in 2022.
