Dear AMCHAM Members,
We would like to inform you of an important update regarding visa procedures for dependent family members (F-3 visas) of foreign employees working at foreign-invested companies in Korea.
Effective April 1, 2024, the Ministry of Justice requires foreign employees to obtain a Confirmation of Visa Issuance (CVI) in advance for their dependents. Under this new regulation, F-3 dependent visas can no longer be obtained through a change of visa status within Korea. Instead, dependent family members must apply from abroad, using a CVI that has been issued in advance. (Exceptions may apply only in limited cases such as childbirth, illness, or other unavoidable circumstances, subject to review by immigration authorities.)
AMCHAM recommends that member companies prepare accordingly and consult with immigration professionals as needed.
