    EVENT DESCRIPTION
    AMCHAM Korea is pleased to host a Special Luncheon with Gen. Xavier T. Brunson, Commander of UNC/CFC/USFK, and The Hon. Michelle Steel, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

    Held in commemoration of Freedom 250, this special program will offer timely perspectives on the evolving U.S.-ROK Alliance, including its security, economic, and strategic dimensions, as well as opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in support of shared priorities and long-term prosperity.

    The program will feature special addresses by General Brunson and Ambassador Steel, followed by a fireside conversation bringing both speakers together for a broader discussion on the future of the U.S.-ROK Alliance.

    About the Speakers

    • Gen. Xavier T. Brunson, Commander UNC/CFC/USFK
      Xavier T. Brunson is the Commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea, at Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea.

      As a General Officer, GEN Brunson has served in numerous staff and command positions in Conventional and Special Operations Forces.

      His operational assignments have included service in Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, and INHERENT RESOLVE.

      GEN Brunson was commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He also earned a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development from Webster University and a Master of Science in National Security Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

      GEN Brunson's notable civic awards include Omega Psi Phi's Brother Dr. Julian Haywood Gamma Epsilon Founder's Leadership Award and the United States National Park Service's Trailblazer Award from the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument. The following honors were awarded by U.S. Army Regimental Associations: Honorable Order of Saint Barbara (Field Artillery), Honorable Order of Saint Michael (Aviation), Centurion Order of Saint Maurice (Infantry), Order of Aaron and Hur (Chaplains), Thomas Knowlton Award (Military Intelligence), and Colonel Eli E. Nobleman Award (Civil Affairs).

      GEN Brunson is married to Colonel (retired) Kirsten Brunson and they have two daughters and one son.

    • The Hon. Michelle Steel, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea
      Michelle Steel was confirmed by the Senate on June 17, 2026, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Korea.

      Prior to her confirmation, Ambassador Steel served as a Member of Congress from 2021 to 2025, representing California’s 48th and 45th Congressional Districts. She served on the House Committee on Ways and Means, including the Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support and the Subcommittee on Health. During the first Trump administration, she was appointed by the President to co-chair the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

      Previously, Ambassador Steel represented the second district on the Orange County Board of Supervisors from 2015 to 2020, where she was chairwoman in 2017 and 2020. She also served as vice chair of the California State Board of Equalization, the only elected tax agency in the nation, from 2007 to 2015.

      Ambassador Steel was born in Seoul and later immigrated to the United States. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California. She and her husband, Shawn Steel, have two children and four grandchildren.
