|MESSAGE FROM CO-CHAIRS|
Dear AMCHAM Members,
The sharing economy has experienced phenomenal growth over recent years and is changing the world in many areas – from how we listen to music to how we get from place to place (whether by car or bike) – and in how we use accommodations and co-working spaces.
One area that is generating a lot of attention these days is the accommodation sector which is revolutionizing the way we stay. Agoda, Booking.com, Airbnb, HomeAway and others are expanding the idea of what a vacation looks like, incorporating traditional ideas like minbak and bed & breakfasts, as well as hotels and many other choices – in ways that make travel more possible, more interesting and often more affordable for different kinds of travelers – families, groups, etc.
WeWork is also doing the same for the office, as co-working has exploded onto the scene with dynamic environments and collaboration opportunities. Rather than taking on long-term leasing agreements which don’t fit the way businesses grow, WeWork is turning the traditional office approach into a shared community where like-minded people can meet, network and exchange ideas over a coffee or beer. All of this portends to a big transformation in the real estate sector around the world, especially in the way we work.
Please join us for what should be a very interesting and informative discussion with Agoda and WeWork to understand what they’re doing, what’s changing – what some of the benefits and challenges are – and how it’s going to change the way we live and work.
