TOPIC
"Stepped Up Enforcement by Competition Authorities in South Korea, the European Union and the United States"

?Dear AMCHAM Members,

The regulatory environment in many countries is becoming more complex, particularly as many companies are engaged in (or planning to expand) cross-border transactions and foreign direct investments. In turn, government officials are increasing efforts to enforce regulations to promote fair competition and free trade.

Mr. Robert Fleishman will discuss current trends in US and EU international cartel enforcement policy and procedure. He will focus on the growth in enforcement activity directed toward Asian and, particularly, Korean firms; the increasing coordination among national enforcement authorities; and, likely future developments in these areas. He will also share with us a summary treatment of basic prevailing law and investigative procedure both in the US and the EU.

Mr. Youngjin Jung will discuss current enforcement trends of the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC). He will focus on the growth in enforcement and legislative activity during the current administration, which includes not only traditional areas of competition law enforcement but, also, some of the idiosyncratic features of Korean competition law and policies.

We look forward to seeing you on June 27 to learn more about issues in cross-border transactions. We also sincerely look forward to fostering relationships among our members and welcoming new members.

Best regards,

Government & International Affairs Committee Co-Chairs
