? James Min?

Vice President, International Trade Law in the Legal Department of Deutsche Post-DHL?

?TOPIC
“An Update on Business & Law in the DPRK: A Practitioner’s Perspective”?

?Dear AMCHAM Members,

James Min is uniquely positioned as the global head of international trade law for the Deutsche Post-DHL group of companies that operates in over 225 countries and territories including both South and North Korea with an annual revenue of U$70+ billion. His expertise includes sanctions, export control, customs, free trade agreements, WTO, and international business transactions laws. DHL has been operating in the DPRK since 1997 in partnership with a state owned company under the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Trade. He travels frequently to North Korea in multiple capacities including his personal work as Chairman Emeritus and Board Member of a U.S. non-profit organization that has been operating in the DPRK since 1997. He also has personally invested in business ventures in North Korea. In the past few years, he has been organizing legal training and exchanges between U.S. and DPRK lawyers and officials with a focus on foreign investment and trade law. In 2013, he also organized and chaired the first conference in Washington DC on legal issues related to operating in North Korea co-sponsored by the American Bar Association. Given his practical experiences on the ground, he brings a unique perspective to business in the DPRK.

At the meeting, James will discuss: 1) What investments and businesses are permitted for U.S. persons under U.S. sanctions and export control laws; 2) What is the current economic and legal climate for investment and business in North Korea; 3) What are the pitfalls to avoid; 4) How can a U.S. person or company move forward with exploring business opportunities in the DPRK? The meeting is strictly off the record.

Thank you.

Best regards,

AMCHAM DPRK Committee Co-Chair
