The CFO Team: Extinct, or Distinct, in a Digital World?

In this provocative and engaging talk, a former CFO of an $18B US MNC operation and current CEO of a global accounting body discusses the implications for the F&A (finance and accounting) team in industry from “disruptive” technologies such as Block-chain, Robotics Process Automation, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Gamification and more. Is our profession at a tipping point, and what could drive us toward extinction (lost or reduced influence and relevance within the corporate value chain) or distinction (increased influence and relevance) in the face of “hyper-fast” advances in technology and automation? Does the company, and the F&A function, need to be first movers on these technologies? How do we keep up, or even get ahead of the accelerating pace of technology and automation? Do we need to rapidly upskill ourselves in the areas of strategic management and data science? How do we differentiate ourselves in a competitive and consolidating business environment, both at the individual and at the corporate levels? And, among many other questions on your mind, how should each partner in the accounting ecosystem step up to retain and gain relevance and influence for the F&A function ? academia, corporations, training companies, accounting associations and individuals?
