  MESSAGE FROM CO-CHAIRS

The Co-Chairs of the Taxation Committee are pleased to invite you to attend a breakfast briefing which will cover two topics: “2017 Proposed Tax Amendments” and “Impact of Kim Young Ran Law on Taxpayers”

The first topic will deal with the proposed tax amendments for 2017, with emphasis on international tax provisions that may impact individuals and corporation. The proposed changes are especially important in light of the global tax initiative referred to as “BEPS.” As most of the members of Taxation Committee are well aware, the reporting and documentation provisions related to transfer pricing are especially onerous and it is likely that taxpayers will face significant compliance hardship. The speakers will explain how the BEPS initiative is impacting the domestic law and also cover other major provisions that may impact you personally as well as your company’s tax position in 2017.

The second topic is also important and timely: the speakers will discuss how the Anti-Corruption Act referred to as the “Kim Young Ran Law” that came into force on September 28, 2016 is likely to impact taxpayers. The Anti-Corruption Act is expected to have a revolutionary impact on how businesses deal with government officials, especially with tax and customs auditors. It is no secret that many businesses and advisors have relied on their well-established relationship with tax officials to avoid harsh and difficult tax audits. However, with the Kim Young Ran law which is now effective, it would be prudent to examine whether such relationship violates the Kim Young Ran Law and if necessary, develop new approaches to working effectively with tax officials.

We hope you can join us for what we anticipate will be a highly informative session.
?
Best regards,

AMCHAM Taxation Committee Co-Chairs
Jay Shim / Henry An / Sim Seo
